The emphasis is on solid and original research results, numerical, experimental and theoretical, and their relevance to applied fluid mechanics and combustion.The journal has evolved from Applied Scientific Research which, established in 1948, has changed over the years from a general scientific journal into a journal focusing on the applications of fluid dynamics. Cold War History Magazine As the Cold War ended in the early 1990s, scholars of contemporary international affairs started taking a new look at the basic conflicts that had dominated the latter part of the twentieth century. Over the last fifteen years a new historical literature on the Cold War era has come into being, greatly helped by the increase in access to archives and other source materials in most countries of the world, from the former Communist states in Europe, to China, to South Africa and elsewhere.Cold War History is a new journal, based in the Cold War Studies Centre at the London School of Economics. It aims to make available to the general public the results of recent research on the origins and development of the Cold War and its impact on nations, alliances and regions at various levels of statecraft, as well as in areas such as the military and intelligence, the economy, and social and intellectual developments. The new history of the Cold War is a fascinating example of how experts -- often working across national and disciplinary boundaries -- are able to use newly available information to refine, or in some cases destroy, old images and interpretations. A theoretical paper will report a significant conceptual advance in the design of algorithms or other processes for some information retrieval task. It will establish the validity or potential validity of the proposed ideas in terms of their relation to already accepted ideas and/or in terms of some modest prototype experiment or simulation. An experimental paper will report on a test of one or more theoretical ideas in a laboratory or natural setting. Experimental papers will be reviewed for both scientific and statistical merit, and will be expected to discuss the limitations and generality of the reported results. An application paper will report the successful application of some already established technique to a significant real world problem involving information retrieval.Information Retrieval overlaps with a variety of technical and behavioral fields. Papers on such technical issues as compression and optimization, and on issues of human behavior and cognition are appropriate insofar as they bear specifically on the issues of methods, tasks or media as outlined above. Variations from these prototypes, such as critical reviews of existing work and significant tutorials will be considered provided that they make a clear contribution to the field. Preference will be given to papers which unify concepts across several traditional disciplinary boundaries, with specific application to problems of information retrieval. .
