National Identities Magazine
National identity has been one of the principal forces shaping the course of history, certainly since the French Revolution. It has played a key role in revolutions, wars and state-formation. Indeed, since the late eighteenth century the nation–state has become the characteristic state form, though why that should be and whether this situation will continue are matters of legitimate debate. But what shapes these identities and loyalties? How do they develop, or come to coalesce around particular political forms? What are the emblems and symbols which convey and support identity, and how are they used?This new journal will explore the formation and expression of national identity from antiquity to the present day. It will examine the role in forging identity of cultural (language, architecture, music, gender, religion, the media, sport, encounters with ‘the other’, etc.) and political (state forms, wars, boundaries) factors, by examining the ways in which these have been shaped and changed over time. And the historical significance of ‘nation’ in political and cultural terms will be considered in relationship to other important and in some cases countervailing forms of identity such as religion, region, tribe or class. The focus will be on identity, rather than the contingent political forms which may express it.The proposed journal will not be prescriptive or proscriptive in its approach. Instead, it will act as a forum within which the growing number of scholars working in this field can explore this important subject. Comparative perspectives will be encouraged, and the journal will feature regular review essays as well as book reviews. . Subscribe to

Asian Journal of Social Science Magazine
Published continuously since it was launched in 1973, the Asian Journal of Social Science provides a forum for exploring issues in Southeast Asian societies. Contributions are from anthropology, economics, geography, history, language and literature, political science, psychology and sociology. The Asian Journal of Social Science is unique in three ways: (i) It is the only Asia-wide journal of the social sciences. All other journals dealing with Asia tend to be area studies journals and focus on a particular discipline or part of Asia. The Asian Journal of Social Science, however, covers the Asian region and has a social science focusing on theoretical issues of the social sciences in the context of Asian empirical realities; (ii) The Asian Journal of Social Science does not restrict itself to coverage of Asian topics. The goal of the Bulletin of Science, Technology and Society is to provide a means of communication within as wide of a spectrum of the STS community as possible. This includes faculty and students from sciences, engineering, the humanities, and social science in the newly emerging groups on university and college campuses, and in the high school systems, all of which teach integrative STS subject matters. It also includes professionals in government, industry and universities, ranging from philosophers and historians of science to social scientists concerned with the effects of science and technology, scientists and engineers involved with the study and policy-making of their own craft, and the concerned general leader. A third category of readers represents "society": all journalists dealing with the impacts of science and technology in their respected fields, the public interest groups and the attentive public. The scope of the Bulletin of Science, Technology and Society is that which is of value in STS pedagogy at either the university or K-12 level. Such material can include original articles describing research or reflection on STS topics. The journal emphasizes articles of general interest in the STS field, which can be used in teaching undergraduate or K-12 students. Educational modules are suitable for instruction in STS courses at the college or K-12 level. Papers should discuss perspectives on such learning and present research findings or positions describing the role that such science experiences play in promoting the publics science interest, knowledge and/or behaviors across the life span.science Teacher Education: containing descriptive articles and reports on empirical research studies, organization and operation of science teacher education programs, and the effectiveness of practices, procedures, or programs of teacher education in science.Books: covering reviews of recently published books in the field.In addition, the journal regularly carries a Comments and Criticism section which provides a forum for the expression of differing view points and commentary and clarification of topics in published papers.The Journal Editorial Board invites any manuscript addressing a relevant science education topic that employs an established and recognized scholarly approach and also impacts or is generalizable to national and international populations. Qualitative research reports that employ sophisticated research designs (e.g. MANOVAs linear modeling) and qualitative research reports that rigorously follow naturalistic research methods are preferred. One or two variable tests employing simple inferential statistics (e.g. ANOVA or ANCOVA) and poorly described and argued qualitative research are discouraged. All manuscripts must provide a thorough review of the literature that establishes the research problem or the issue at hand as well as a thorough conclusion that addresses the implications and limitations of the research or argument. .
