Pneuma Magazine
Pneuma is the Journal of the Society for Pentecostal Studies (SPS). Since its founding in 1970, the SPS has become an international society of scholars interested in Pentecostal and Charismatic studies. Though many of the more than 600 members of the Society belong to one of the Pentecostal or Charismatic churches, a number of others are involved in the Societys annual meetings from other churches or merely from university settings. In 1979, Pneuma first appeared as the Journal of the SPS. The Journal became a major medium for the international discussion of scholarly issues related to Pentecostal and Charismatic studies. Articles have appeared over the years on matters related to the special interest groups of the SPS, namely, biblical studies, history, theology, missions, praxis, ecumenism, and religion and culture. The Journal has cherished an ecumenical and an international vision as well.The Fall 2000 issue dealt mainly with the international dialogue between the world Pentecostal movements and the World Alliance of Reformed Churches. The Spring 2002 issue is devoted to an ecumenical pneumatology, with articles on Pentecostalism, Eastern Orthodoxy, Luther, Calvin, and Wesley. The Fall 2002 issue will be devoted to African Pentecostal and Charismatic movements.The staff at Pneuma trust that the Journal will bring the scholarship of the SPS and beyond to the broader awareness of the academy and the churches for the mutual benefit of both. . Post-Communist Economies is the new title for Communist Economies and Economic Transformation (originally just Communist Economies). After ten years of publication the title has been changed because of a growing feeling that the major processes into which transformation has generally been divided - stablisation, liberalisation and privatisation - have in substantial measure been completed in most of the former communist countries, even though this is more true of some than others, and all still have some distance to go to match the long-established market economies in these respects.Yet despite the dramatic changes that have taken place in the past decade, the post-communist economies still form a clearly identifiable group,distinguished by the impact of the years of communist rule, and this looks set to remain true for many more years. This is the reason for the choice of the new title now: post-communist economies still present distinctive problems which make them a particular focus of research.There is need for further stabilisation, liberalisation and privatisation in spite of the progress that has been made. And there is the fundamental problem that efficiency, productivity and thus incomes in all these countries are extremely low. More attention needs to be devoted to the microeconomic aspects of the post-communists countries’ efforts to catch up with the much richer countries of the European Union many of them aim to join in the opening years of the new millenium.The focus may thus have moved on from the basic transformation but the post-communist economies’particular problems will continue to be an important area of economic and political analysis and Post-Communist Economies will contribute to this analysis by publishing the key research and policy articles in the field. . Plants are static organisms and cannot escape the pressure caused by biotic and abiotic factors. They must increase fitness and prepare adequate responses to external stimuli. Journal of Plant Interactions (JPI) will cover most plant interactions with the surrounding environment and aims to represent a common platform for those scientists interested in publishing and reading research articles in this field. The journal will be of significance to all plant biologists, plant physiologists, ecologists, mycologists, microbiologists, agronomists, landscape architects, environmental engineers, entomologists, students and all researchers interested in biological struggle and sustainable use of natural resources. JPI presents original research and reviews in the fields of the many aspects of interaction between plants and their surrounding environment. All submissions will be independently refereed by editorial board members and by external referees chosen on an international basis. The main sections covered by JPI are: Plant-Plant Interaction:This area deals with interaction between plants, considering all biochemical, physiological and molecular aspects. Allelopathy is the term used to gather all responses of plants upon "chemical attack" by other plants. Plant-Microorganism Interaction:This area is surely one of the widest and covers three fundamental sub-areas: Plant-Fungi; Plant-Bacteria and Plant-Virus Interactions. Responses to and interactions of plants with micro-organisms are the basics for understanding community dynamics and crop productivity, as well as the key to discovering new resistance genes for pest and disease attacks. Plant-Insect Interaction:The presence of plants after millions of years of herbivore predation is the demonstration that plants have the ability to deter herbivore feeding, but the presence of herbivore after ages of plant toxin biosynthesis is the living evidence that insect herbivores are able to counteract plant poisons. This area deals with all aspects of interaction: from pest attack to plant attraction; from tritrophic interaction to biological control. Plant-Animal Interaction:Besides insects, monogastric and polygastric herbivores interact with plants with grazing activity. This area is intended for all studies concerning the effect of grazing on plant population and dynamics. Plant-Environment Interaction:This area is divided into two general sections: open environment and closed environment. The first section covers all aspects of plants interaction with abiotic stresses present in the natural environments (including atmospheric phenomena, light, temperature, pollution, etc.). The aim of the second section is to collect research reports on artificial environments where plants live (including greenhouses, growth chambers, etc.) both on Earth and in space applications. Remote sensing and biosensing will also be covered under this area. Plant-Soil Interaction (including plant-water interactions):This area deals with nutrition, drought, flooding, restoration, phytoremediation, biremediation, applied ecology, and all aspects where plants interact with the soil.JPI prefers to publish only those manuscripts that present fundamental advances of wide interest to the plant-interaction biology community. Preference will be given to manuscripts presenting evidence that answers important questions with a high degree of certainty and clarity. Manuscripts that only describe the mere effect of plant interactions - although important and interesting from a phenomenological point of view - generally do not meet the standards insisted on by most reviewers without providing a biological meaning and interpretation. Similarly, quality manuscripts that describe a new methodology, but which do not also provide substantial new insight into the biology of plant interactions do not meet reviewers’ expectations or the journals scope. Another important issue is statistics. Manuscripts that are not accompanied by a sound statistical analysis of data to support results will not be taken into consideration. . Subscribe to
