Psycho-Oncology is concerned with the psychological, social, behavioral, and ethical aspects of cancer. This subspeciality addresses the two major psychological dimensions of cancer: the psychological responses of patients to cancer at all stages of the disease, and that of their families and caretakers; and the psychological, behavioral and social factors that may influence the disease process. Psycho-oncology is an area of multi-disciplinary interest and has boundaries with the major specialities in oncology: the clinical disciplines (surgery, medicine, pediatrics, radiotherapy), epidemiology, immunology, endocrinology, biology, pathology, bioethics, palliative care, rehabilitation medicine, clinical trials research and decision making, as well as psychiatry and psychology.This international journal is published twelve times a year and will consider contributions to research of clinical and theoretical interest. Topics covered are wide-ranging and relate to the psychosocial aspects of cancer and AIDS-related tumors, including: epidemiology, quality of life, palliative and supportive care, psychiatry, psychology, sociology, social work, nursing and educational issues.Special reviews are offered from time to time. There is a section reviewing recently published books. A society news section is available for the dissemination of information relating to meetings, conferences and other society-related topics. Physical Oceanography is now to be published in electronic format for faster and more efficient access with 6 issues per year.The journal publishes results of original investigations, invited reviews, and short letters in the following areas of physical oceanography: Thermohydrodynamics of the ocean;Methods of processing and analysis of observations of hydrophysical fields;Experimental and field research;Satellite hydrophysics;Mathematical modelling of marine systems;Automation of research in seas and oceans. The section on the thermohydrodynamics of the ocean contains articles on the analytical and numerical methods of describing the formation of the structure of thermohaline fields and general circulation, surface and internal waves in a stratified sea, dynamic stochastic methods for calculating the system of ocean currents, wave and turbulent structure of boundary layers and the physical processes of ocean - atmosphere interaction in a broad range of space-time scales.Results of field studies conducted by research vessels in the ocean and seas are discussed. Also covered, are results from processing and analysing large data sets acquired in the framework of national and international oceanographic programs, such as: Programs of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO - in particular - GOOS, Black Sea GOOS (Regional system of oceanographic observations and services for the Black Sea), Black Sea Fluxes (Geochemical and sedimentation fluxes in the Black Sea ecosystem) and GODAR.Oceanographic projects of the NATO Science for Peace Program (Black Sea Ecosystem, Processes, Prediction and Operational Data Management).Marine programs funded through various international scientific foundations. Additionally, new methods are presented for data assimilation in thermo-hydrophysical models of the ocean (four-dimensional analysis).General and applied problems associated with satellite hydrophysics are also highlighted. These aspects include the development of remote sensing methods for measuring optico-chemical and biological characteristics of the upper layer of the ocean, the three-dimensional structure of the field of surface waves, the field of the near surface wind and the elevation of the sea surface in the range of meso-scales.`Mathematical modelling of marine systems describes the formation of the hydrophysical, hydrochemical and hydrobiological structure of the sea, and their synthesis aiming at the creation of general physico-biogeochemical models of marine environment for different regions of the World Ocean.Also published, are papers devoted to the development of the Global Ocean Observation Systems in different regions, as well as to the development of new methods and measuring devices for field studies and long-term monitoring of marine environments.In the journal, special attention is paid to results of regional studies in the Black, Azov and Mediterranean Seas, which are subject to intense anthropogenic impact. Physical oceanography problems related to the development of numerical models of physico-biogeochemical processes are discussed in some papers. These models are built upon the analysis and generalisation of available experimental data, experience gained in mathematical modelling, modelling complex marine biosystems and remote sensing studies, for which the Black Sea can serve not only as an object of investigations but also as a testing arena.Selected papers are devoted to the problems of climatic variability of major hydrometeorological fields that occur as a result of natural and man-induced processes; to the creation of special climatic databases, which are used for the solution of various oceanographic and climatic problems; and to the development of new methods and models for marine ecosystem diagnosis and forecasting.Physical Oceanography is a translation of selected articles from the Russian language journal Morskoi Gidrofizicheskii Zhurnal, which has been published since 1985. Formerly published by VSU, from Volume 12 (2002) Physical Oceanography is being published in the imprint of Kluwer Academic/Consultants Bureau, in electronic form only, and available via Kluwer Online. .
