Flow, Turbulence and Combustion is published in association with the European Research Community on Flow, Turbulence and Combustion (ERCOFTAC). ERCOFTAC is a collaboration between European universities, research institutes and industry active in the area of applied fluid mechanics, and strongly promotes scientific research on current issues in this area. In this respect, the journal provides a forum for the publication of those research results that contribute to the solution of problems in flow, turbulence and combustion and related fields. The journal aims for an audience of readers and contributors coming from the entire international fluid mechanics community, both inside and outside academia, and underwriting the aims mentioned above.The journal covers the entire domain of flow, turbulence and combustion, including all flow problems relevant in industrial, geophysical and environmental applications. The emphasis is on solid and original research results, numerical, experimental and theoretical, and their relevance to applied fluid mechanics and combustion.The journal has evolved from Applied Scientific Research which, established in 1948, has changed over the years from a general scientific journal into a journal focusing on the applications of fluid dynamics. The title Flow, Turbulence and Combustion adopted in 1998 reflects this change of focus.Main features of accepted papers will be originality, novelty, timeliness, and clarity of presentation. Full-length research papers and review or survey articles are equally welcome. All such contributions are subject to critical peer review prior to acceptance and publication. We also invite submission of short contributions or correspondence on new and/or controversial matters for which quick publication will be ensured. The field of landscape ecology, characterized by its highly interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary goals and approaches, focuses on the formation, dynamics, and consequences of spatial heterogeneity in natural and human-dominated landscapes. Landscape Ecology seeks new and innovative papers that improve our understanding of the relationship between spatial pattern and ecological and socioeconomic processes on multiple scales, and that provide guidance and solutions to help develop and maintain sustainable landscapes. Empirical, theoretical, modeling, and methodological papers are all welcome. The following research areas are particularly relevant to the journal: - Relationships among landscape pattern, ecological processes, and scale Land use and land cover change and its ecological consequences - Landscape fragmentation and its effects on biodiversity and ecosystem functioning - Effects of landscape heterogeneity on population dynamics, ecosystem processes, and ecosystem services - Disturbance and patch dynamics in natural and anthropogenic landscapes - Scaling – transferring information across space, time, and organizational levels - Applications of nonlinear dynamics and complexity science in landscape studies - Landscape approaches to biodiversity conservation, environmental management, and ecological restoration - Integration between ecology and landscape planning, design, and architecture - Transdisciplinary studies of landscape sustainability Papers submitted to the journal must show adequate awareness of the current literature and research questions in landscape ecology that are pertinent to the subject matter of concern. This includes research directed toward an understanding of the molecular basis of cell behavior as influenced by the interaction of cells with one another and with the extracellular environment, including extracellular matrix, cytokines and chemotactic factors. This journal provides a single source of information concerning all forms of intercellular communication, intercellular junctions and families of adhesion receptors and counter receptors from diverse biological systems.Manuscripts will be accepted describing the role of intercellular signaling, junctions and adhesion pathways in pathological and normal processes, ranging from fundamental interactions in developing systems to immune- based recognition events and neuronal targeting. Research documenting the effect of the cell surface environment including lipids, carbohydrates and associated proteins on receptor function is also suitable for the journal. Manuscripts should be consistent with the goal of providing the reader with a central source of high quality information required for molding new ideas and concepts related to cell communication and contact will be deemed appropriate. This includes work on signaling pathways and molecular aspects of gene regulation related to cell communication. The submission of manuscripts dealing with research of a biological and descriptive nature, as well as work having to do with the relationship of molecular structure and function, is also encouraged. .
