Journal of Neurocytology Magazine
The Journal of Neurocytology announces an expansion of its area of coverage, and major changes in editorial structure, and in the editorial process. Henceforth we will encourage the submission of papers that span a much wider spectrum of neuroscience than in the past. Papers will be published on research of high quality covering all areas Of developmental, molecular and cellular neuroscience under normal, experimental and pathological conditions. It is not expected that papers will be primarily morphological-indeed multidisciplinary reports are strongly encouraged-but it is anticipated that most papers will have a morphological component. In addition, the Journal recognizes the importance of first class structural studies and will continue to accept papers which are heavily morphological (for example, good descriptive/experimental neuroanatomy or the characterization of the phenotype of transgenic/mutant animals). To emphasise and underpin this broadened remit, several specific subject areas have been identiied (see below) In which we particularly encourage submission of papers. Each area has a Section Editor (or Editors) responsible for the selection of reviewers, editorial processing and decisions (In consultation, when necessary, with the Editor in Chief). These subject areas, do not define the full scope of the Journal and submission of papers in any area of developmental, molecular and cellular neuroscience will be welcomed. Development To include studies of morphogenesis, growth and maturation, patterns of gene expression, mechanisms of early development, and migratory events, in vertebrates and invertebrates under normal and experimental conditions.Cell Biology of Neurons and Synapses To include all aspects of the cell biology of the neuron and its processes (including structure/function of cytoplasmic organelles and the cytoskeleton), the functional anatomy of nerve terminals and synapses, and the structural correlates of synaptic activity.Neural Circuitry To include structural, functional, chemical, pharmacological, and experimental analyses of path ways and circuits in the CNS and special sense organs.PNS and Peripheral Autonomic Nervous System To include all aspects of the structure and functional organization of receptors, peripheral nerves, sensory and autonomic ganglia and the enteric nervous system under normal, experimental and pathological conditions.Glial Cell Biology To include lineage, phenotypic diversity, roles, interactions with neurons and functional specializations of CNS and PNS glia.Injury Repair Ageing and Neurodegeneration To include studies of mechanisms and consequences of CNS injury and repair and experimental approaches to the enhancement of repair (e.g. administration of neurotrophins, or antibodies or transplantation of cells), mechanisms of neuronal pathology and cell death in ageing, human and experimental neurodegenerative diseases and experimental approaches to therapy. .
