Review: Literature and Arts of the Americas Magazine
Founded in 1968, Review is the major forum in the United States for contemporary Latin American, Caribbean, and Canadian writing in English and English translation as well as for coverage of arts in the Americas. Review is published by Taylor and Francis Ltd. in association with the Americas Society, a national, not-for-profit institution that promotes understanding in the United States of the political, economic, and cultural issues that define and challenge the Americas today.Review first brought the work of Latin American writers such as Alejo Carpentier, Gabriel García Márquez, and Mario Vargas Llosa to critical attention in the United States, and they were followed by numerous other important figures. Translators Edith Grossman, Gregory Rabassa, and Margaret Sayers Peden are among those who have contributed to Review. Issues of the magazine are developed from the Americas Societys literature programs, which often focus on specific countries, regions, or on more abstract themes such as urban voices, womens writing, or Latin American/Latino performing arts. Review has regularly included selections of poetry, fiction, and nonfiction; book reviews of newly translated titles; profiles of visual artists;and essays exploring currents in music and the performing arts.Review has undergone various transformations, in response to cultural and economic currents over the last 36 years. Founded in 1968 as a compilation of previously published reviews of titles by Latin American authors, in the 1970s it turned to publishing special-focus issues on individual Latin American writers, including Borges, Neruda, and Paz. In the 1980s, Review was reconfigured as a high-design publication with substantial coverage of the visual and performing arts, broadening its scope to attract a more general readership. This trend continued into the 1990s when the magazine began publishing more literature and arts from the non-Spanish-speaking Caribbean.And in 2003, the magazines title was changed from Review: Latin American Literature and Arts to its current one,acknowledging the true mandate of both the magazine and the Americas Society.Beginning with Review 68 (pan-Caribbean writing and arts, June 2004), Review will include scholarly research articles in addition to its regular content, and will be published online as well as in a print edition. These developments will expand the journals editorial scope and will help Review reach the greatest possible number of scholars and students of Latin American, Caribbean, and comparative literatures as well as general readers across the globe. . International Journal of Psychology Magazine
The International Journal of Psychology is the journal of the International Union of Psychological Science (IUPsyS) and is published under the auspices of the IUPsyS. Its purpose is to circulate, in an international framework, scientific information within and among subdisciplines of psychology and to foster the development of psychological science around the world. The journal emphasizes empirical research and theory in basic and applied psychology, especially with an international focus. It does not publish technical articles, validations of questionnaires and tests, or clinical case studies.Regular issues include two types of articles: empirical articles and review articles. Empirical articles report data from single or multiple studies in one of the major fields of scientific psychology. Review articles provide overviews of the international literature on a particular topic; authors are especially encouraged to include in their review relevant publications from regions of the world not typically cited and/or not published in English. Special topical issues or sections are also published two or three times a year. All articles include a detailed abstract in English, French and Spanish.The International Platform for Psychologists:Associate Editors: M. Bullock (USA); P.L.-J. Ritchie (Canada)Many of IJPs issues include a second section, the International Platform for Psychologists, which provides an opportunity to exchange news and opinions on psychology as an academic and applied profession. This section also contains information about the IUPsyS, about major international meetings, and about the activities of the National Psychological Societies. Finally it offers an opportunity to express opinions and to discuss internationally significant psychological issues. The aim of the International Journal of Osteoarchaeology is to provide a forum for the publication of papers dealing with all aspects of the study of human and animal bones from archaeological contexts. The journal will publish original papers dealing with human or animal bone research from any area of the world. It will also publish short papers which give important preliminary observations from work in progress and it will publish book reviews. All papers will be subject to peer review.Papers from any of the following principal areas of work would be considered for publication.Palaeopathology: Human and animal diseases as found in actual human and animal remains, including radiographic, histological and serological and immunological studies.Physical anthropology: Ageing, sexing, metric and morphological analysis of human and animal bone. The application of demographic analyses to both.Epidemiology: Prevalence and aetiology of disease and the factors influencing these in human and animal populations. Secular trends.Chemical analysis: Exposure of past populations to toxic substances; reconstruction of the diet and other nutritional studies of human and animal bones.Exploitation of animal resources: Studies of the means of procuring and managing animal food sources including hunting, butchery and domestication.Taphonomy: Processes, both natural and man-made, which affect the preservation and survival of bone.The journal will be aimed principally towards all those with a professional interest in the study of human and animal bones. This includes archaeologists, anthropologists, human and animal bone specialists, palaeopathologists and medical historians.
