Managerial and Decision Economics will publish articles applying economic reasoning to managerial decision-making and management strategy.Management strategy concerns practical decisions that managers face about how to compete, how to succeed, and how to organize to achieve their goals. Economic thinking and analysis provides a critical foundation for strategic decision-making across a variety of dimensions. For example, economic insights may help in determining which activities to outsource and which to perfom internally. They can help unravel questions regarding what drives performance differences among firms and what allows these differences to persist. They can contribute to an appreciation of how industries, organizations, and capabilities evolve. They can help managers cope with the complexities and uncertainties of a dynamic competitive environment. Compared to other journals in economics, the focus of this journal is more normative than positive and the viewpoint is focused on managerial efficiency and firm profitability rather than on social welfare. Articles are welcomed from economists,strategists, and others using economic reasoning in analyzing business problems. The journal is open to a variety of economic theoretical perspectives, including transaction cost theory, evolutionary theory, resource-based theory, agency theory, game theory, and behavioral decision theory. The journal will publish articles from all of the functional areas of economics, as long as these articles are useful for managerial decision- making, and from all the functional areas of business, so long as the articles use economic reasoning.Some examples: Articles in law and economics may use economic insights to discuss ways in which firms can respond to legal problems. Discussions of regulation or of public choice may highlight ways in which firms can influence or adapt to government regulation. Articles on public finance will emphasize reactions of firms to issues of taxation. Consumer theory may be applied to marketing decisions. Articles may stress ways in which firms can better adapt to labor markets and may provide economic bases for personnel policies. Analyses of industrial organization problems may suggest strategic policies for firms. Economics may be used to analyze accounting issues. Economics may be used to explain the existence and structure of organizations.The journal particularly welcomes articles with an international focus, or articles that analyze issues and markets from a non-American perspective. Issues pertaining to global strategy and the management of a multinational enterprise are of interest.Articles in the journal will serve three related purposes. First, and of primary importance, is the advancement of knowledge of managerial economics. The second is the dissemination of useful pedagogical ideas. Finally, practitioners will also find the journal useful.While the editors will consider articles of any level of sophistication, they will not be interested in technique for its own sake. In all cases, the idea behind an article will be of more importance than the methods of analysis. The journal will even be willing to publish articles written only in words if the ideas are themselves interesting and important.The editors will attempt to offer rapid turnaround, and will try to have responses to domestic authors within two months of the receipt of the submission. The proliferation of derivative assets during the past two decades is unprecedented. With this growth in derivatives comes the need for financial institutions, institutional investors, and corporations to use sophisticated quantitative techniques to take full advantage of the spectrum of these new financial instruments. Academic research has significantly contributed to our understanding of derivative assets and markets. The growth of derivative asset markets has been accompanied by a commensurate growth in the volume of scientific research.The rapid growth of derivatives research combined with the current absence of a rigorous research journal catering to the area of derivatives, and the long lead-times in the existing academic journals, underlines the need for Review of Derivatives Research, which provides an international forum for researchers involved in the general areas of derivative assets. The Review publishes high quality articles dealing with the pricing and hedging of derivative assets on any underlying asset (commodity, interest rate, currency, equity, real estate, traded or non-traded, etc.). Specific topics include but are not limited to:econometric analyses of derivative markets (efficiency, anomalies, performance, etc.),analysis of swap markets,market microstructure and volatility issues,regulatory and taxation issues credit risk new areas of applications such as corporate finance (capital budgeting, debt innovations), international trade (tariffs and quotas), banking and insurance (embedded options, asset-liability management) risk-sharing issues and the design of optimal derivative securities risk management, management and control valuation and analysis of the options embedded in capital projects valuation and hedging of exotic options new areas for further development (i.e. natural resources, environmental economics.The Review has a double-blind refereeing process. The Anatomical Record Part A: Discoveries in Molecular, Cellular, and Evolutionary Biology is an official publication of the American Association of Anatomists whose purpose is to rapidly publish new discoveries in the morphological aspects of molecular, cellular, systems, and evolutionary biology. Emphasis will focus upon major new findings in the anatomical consequences of gene disruption, activation, or over expression upon cell, tissue, or organ architecture. The journal recognizes the importance of descriptive studies in contemporary research, particularly when framed in the context of experimental models or questions. An important priority will be those discoveries and new advances made through the use of imaging modalities that range from those that image real-time signalling processes to ones that image protein or gene expression in individual cells, tissues, or whole organisms.Papers will be accepted dealing with functional morphology of any vertebrate organ system including those with a developmental, comparative, or evolutionary theme. With respect to developmental biology, our sister journal--Developmental Dynamics--focuses on biochemical and molecular mechanisms of vertebrate and invertebrate development. Our area of coverage will be directed primarily to the organ or system level where descriptive studies of normal and abnormal development may become an important consideration in characterizing phenotypes. In addition, timely reviews of important topics related to Anatomy and its subdisciplines will be regularly included.Educational topics, more general reviews, matters of controversy, and other issues of general interest to the readership will be published in a companion publication, The Anatomical Record Part B: The New Anatomist. The criteria of acceptance of all papers are the quality of the research, its originality and significance to our readership.The abstracts and proceedings of the annual meeting of the American Association of Anatomists is also published in The Anatomical Record Part A.
